Description:
This deck consists of the 22 Major Arcana depicting many well-known Italian locations. The Sicilian chef is a Magician with an abundance of ingredients and tools in his kitchen for card, '1 - il Bagatto', the Emperor is shown before the Castle del Monte, a lion looks towards the Roman Coliseum on, '11- La Forza' (Strength) and of course the Pope pontificates at the Vatican on the '5 - il Papa' (Pope) card, just to name a few. The artist has a clear understanding of what scenarios match the meanings of the cards and its rather fun, guessing the shared associations and then comparing them with the enclosed leaflet (which is written in Italian, but easy enough to recognize the locations listed. Card titles are included in English.) The deck is on fairly thick, slightly textured, cream-colored paper. A clever concept deck with an attractive presentation. The hot wax stamped in blood red and gold dust, with the Museum logo (also found on the card backs) is a nice touch and in keeping with the feel of this deck of historical scenes.
