Description:

Maria Monti created the Tarocchi Della Luna Nuova - Tarot of the New Moon between 1982 and 1983 using a combination of pencil, ink and tempera. Museo dei Tarocchi published it in a gorgeous limited edition set of only 300 numbered copies. Monti's Tarot cards are beautiful, the colors vibrant, and the whole production was obviously made with great care. The imagery is based on traditional symbolism while also having a rather contemporary look and feel. The Major Arcana and Court cards are rich in both color and meaning. The Pip cards are the traditional suit symbols (rather than scenery). They are not titled but instead the required number of symbols are depicted on the cards in appealing designs (see the Ace of Wands /Batons below). The titles on the Majors and Court Cards are in Italian. The backs are reversible (shown below). The imagery on the cards is surrounded by what looks like braided cord and a narrow white border around the outer edge (an example of the width of the white border shown below on the 'Title card'). There is no LWB - description of the cards included but it would be easy to understand for anyone familiar with traditional Tarot. The cards are printed on semi-glossy cardstock and should hold up to shuffling. It is a bit larger than most Tarot decks at 6" H x 3.4" W, (15.24 x 8.64 cm). The black wrap-around cardboard box fully encloses the deck and a flap slips into a slit on the back side. The High Priestess, (a good example of the style of this deck) is featured on the front along with the title and artist's name (also shown below). A gorgeous 78 card deck for both Tarot readers and collectors. So sad it went out of print.
