Tarot Literary - Art Contest

THEME:
In the Court of the Trumps - Tarot Through Poetry, Fiction, Essay, Graphic Art and Photography

In order to share the works of all who wish to participate, we offer here the names of the Tarot Majors, as a starting point for submitted art work: Fool, Magician, High Priestess, Empress, Emperor, Hierophant, Lovers, Chariot, Justice, Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Strength, Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, Devil, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, Judgment, and the World.

Artwork can be oriented towards one of the Major Arcana. Or a combination of some or all of the Trumps can be incorporated into the artwork as well.

Documentation: Each of the award wining artists will receive the Book of the Tarot Museum (in addition to receiving the award mentioned below).

2nd Place - € 500,00 + Publication*
3rd Place - € 250,00 + Publication*
4th Place - Artistic work + Publication*
5th Place - € 300,00 IN BOOKS + Publication*
6th Place - € 200,00 IN BOOKS + Publication*
7th Place - € 150,00 IN BOOKS + Publication*
8th, 9th, and 10th Place Prize - Publication*

*The publication is the first book of the Tarot Museum

CONTEST RULES:
LITERARY
(copyright free work only)
Story: contributed in any language, a maximum of 20 pages
Poetry: in any language, a maximum of 40 verses
Essay: text in any language, a maximum of 30 pages
Artwork: (copyright free work only)
Photography: in black & white or color, free format
Graphic Art: artwork in black & white or color, free format

All artwork contributions will not be returned and should be considered donated to the museum, and will become part of the Museo dei Tarocchi permanent collection.

Participants may contribute a maximum of three works in any category.

For the LITERARY Category: 5 (five) copies of any contribution must be sent, and signed with a pseudonym. The complete name and address of the author (address, telephone number, e-mail, short bio – of 5 lines, max) to be put in a separate sealed envelope.
This last condition is valid for the authors and artists of the other categories as well.

A € 15,00 processing fee is necessary for each contribution. With this payment, participants will become associates to Hermatena and the Museum of Tarot. Associate members are invited to visit the Museum free for one year.

The artwork may be sent by post to the secretariat of the Award: Hermatena Edizioni Via Palmieri, 5 - 40038 Riola (Bologna) Italy, combined with the processing fee and a “Consent of privacy” signed statement. The jury will choose 10 (ten) works among the internationally contributed Stories, Poetry, Essays, Photography, and Graphic Arts. The wining works will then become part of a book that will be distributed all over Italy. Moreover the jury will give a special prize for critic’s choice and for originality.

The artworks selected will become part of a book of the Museum of Tarot (to be published in 2007) and will also be displayed at the VII FESTIVAL HERMATENA 2007 Exhibit, JUNE 22nd 23rd and 24th.

This Tarot literary art contest is sponsored by the Vergato and Grizzana Morandi Commons, Bologna Province, and Emilia Romagna Region.

The works in competition will be judged by a jury of art critics and experts elected by the directive Council of the Publishing House, who will offer reviews of awarded works.

Participating in the IV HERMATENA AWARD 2007 contest assumes the unconditional acceptance of all presented regulations. Any changes will be posted in a timely manner. All participants will be invited to the Award Ceremony and will receive a special certificate of participation if they are present for the ceremony.
