XV. The Devil

Her creative energy out of balance, Spiderwoman seduces and traps a man in order to feed off his illusions of what love is. Her power over him ignites anger at past injustices towards her and other women. This offers her the illusion that she is in control so she won't be hurt again. When she steps back from her destructive behavior she can again create in a life-affirming manner. The energy itself is neutral - it is the intention that transforms it. Other symbols depicted are the Devil in my reoccurring nightmares, the menacing looking guardian gargoyle and a red primitive beast ( the id, or wild shadow of the unconscious.)

Meanings: Passion at its most primal level. Erotica and sensual pleasure. Obsession, temptation, blind impulse. Feeling out of control. Dependence upon another that can lead to misery. Self-destructive tendencies. Ignoring one's inborn code of ethics. A lack of balance. An inability to trust. You may be experiencing limitations in a current situation that narrow the perception of options. It can mean the fear of leaving a "secure" but destructive environment because the unknown seems even scarier. A need to find guidance and support. Through this process you can overcome inhibitions that have hindered growth in the past. Reversed: An attempt to break the chains of psychological bondage. Separation, divorce. It could also indicate the pleasure in the subjection of others (sadomasochistic qualities).
